Ever since I started renting movies through Netflix I have become a huge fan. Nothing is more fun than getting a new movie in the mail. Because of it, I experience a high turnover on movies and kiddie shows. By the time I am done watching I have usually formed my own opinion on whether it was good or something I shouldn't have bothered renting.

It is that opinion which I intend to share here.

What can you expect?

Watch out for some action, comedy, kiddie, and chick flick movie reviews. That is what I have the highest turnover of. On occasion something out of the ordinary (like a musical) might pop up.

Not all of the movies will be new, not all of them old. They will simply be movies that I've finally had a chance to watch and wanted to share a little bit of my opinion on. I pretty much never make it to the theater so if you are a movie buff I'm probably not going to interest you. If you're a casual movie watcher, someone who likes wait until the new movie rush dies down before buying or renting, you might like what I have to say.

The Popcorn Movie Rating System

What fun is it to rate a movie if there is no system? So I created the popcorn rating system, as you can see:

Nothing But Kernals

They're Really Popping!

One more thing...

I welcome your opinions! If you have your own thoughts on a movie I have reviewed, comment on that post with your own review. They are welcome. However, I do not welcome personal attacks. There is a difference between a review and an attack on someones opinion. I will moderate comments accordingly.

Mission: Impossible III (M:I:III)

I was seriously into M:I:III through every twist and turn. Although I admittedly enjoy the whole series, I think I would have enjoyed this flick even if I had never seen the previous two.

Either they are good or I am a fool, but I truly believed that the man they claimed to be dirty was so. I did not expect that turn of events at all.

Overall M:I:III receives 5 buckets of popcorn from me, although I must warn you that it isn't nearly as good the 3rd or 4th time it has been watched. Just a heads up. ;-)

The Day The Earth Stood Still

For the most part I was disappointed with The Day The Earth Stood Still. It really didn't hold my interest very well. However, I wouldn't mind if aliens looking like Keanu Reeves would pop up more often.

I don't necessarily regret renting the movie though. It was interesting enough but it kind of left me going, "um, thats it?"

On the flip side, Jaden Smith is a good actor. He's also a little cutie. I'm willing to bet he'll have a good career just like his parents.

I didn't boo the movie, but I wasn't all that into it either. So this movie receives 3 bags of popcorn from me.

Quantum Leap

I haven't had any new reviews lately because I am trying to work my way through all 5 seasons of Quantum Leap (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5). I don't have to finish all the seasons to rate them because I love the show. It will always receive a 5 popcorn rating in my book. However, it takes time to get through them all and it has created a review drought.

If you have never watched the series, then it is time for you to fire up your netflix queue or watch them directly from your computer through the instant play feature. I first watched this when I was about 6-ish. If I could fall in love with the show back then, you can now.

Barnyard

Okay, male cows are bulls. They do not have utters. Unfortunately I think someone forgot to tell that to the animators for Barnyard.

I was being irritated by my mom about that fact, actually. I didn't care that they gave female cow bodies to male voices. But she has a point and it is a little annoying.

The only part I absolutely loved about this movie was the scene where they go boy tipping. That was hilarious. The rest of the movie was kind of predictable. I figured out early on that the dad would die, leaving the young cow to fill his shoes. No real surprises, a few funny spots, I wouldn't buy it.

Marley & Me

Attention all animal lovers: Be prepared to get teary-eyed at the end of the movie.

Yeah, Marley & Me caused me to cry a little. It's just sad how they had to put Marley to sleep. Considering I once had a cat with just as much personality as that dog, I guess it touches me a little closer to home than it would for some people.

... it also made me wish I had a newspaper column. I think that is because I've been writing like crazy since my muse came back. Anyway, isn't a newspaper column simply a wider spread version of a personal blog? Topics they want. Delving into personal life. Not extremely long, not extremely short. Yeah, sounds like a blog to me. Or I've put too much thought into it.

This movie touched the writer and animal lover in me.

The Lake House

I'm a huge sucker for romanic movies. I saw The Lake House as an ad on another movie some time back and I have wanted to see it since. Yesterday I finally got my chance.

This movie is torture for all single women in the world. It's sweet, almost sickeningly, and it's just too good.

Also, watching Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves together in the movie just makes me think about Speed. Now I yearn to rent that movie. If you're going to watch this movie, you might as well make sure you have the Speed movies on hand just in case that same yearning hits you too.

I will admit it, I am one of those girls who tears up a little during a movie like this. It's oh so torturous, in a good way.

Sky High

My first impression of Sky High? High school for superkids is no different than it is for us regular people. I might not be in high school anymore but it wasn't so long ago that I can't remember what it was like. I probably would have been classified a sidekick and shunned by the cool hero group too.

I watched the movie twice before putting it out in the mailbox to ship back to Netflix. During the scene where the hippy girl is talking about how unfair it is that they're being separated into different groups, Will Stronghold says something along the lines of: If this was any more fair, I'm not sure it would be high school. While I am not 100% sure that is what he said, that statement is very true.

This is defintiely a movie for someone who is in highschool or going to be entering highschool soon. Or for a 4 year old kid who thinks it's cool that they can do stuff (like fly, light on fire, etc.) and her dorky mom. ;-)

Over The Hedge

I really wanted to like Over The Hedge. Really. I remember when it came out, a friend or two kept talking about it. Hammy was a particular favorite among them. I will admit that I liked Hammy too, although I'm not exactly a Steve Carell fan (the only place I really love him is in Get Smart). At least I know why he wanted to name the hedge "Steve".

The start menu was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I've never seen a start menu this creative. I clicked through each bag, and on the bee, just to see what it would do.

I don't know why I was less than impressed with the movie. Maybe it was just one of those things that only kids like? Monkey liked it. I just found other stuff to do through most of it. Until the very end, anyway. At the end, when Hammy has an energy drink, I had to laugh. I thought it was hilarious how the world slowed down to almost a stop because he was supposedly moving so fast.

Herbie: Fully Loaded

Although it has been a while since I watched the original Herbie The Lovebug movies, I loved them and thought it was about time I finally rent Herbie: Fully Loaded.

Yes... it was cute. It was very cute and even Monkey loved it. It just wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. However, it is a good family flick. And, for old times sake, this is a flick that would be best picked up when renting some of the old Herbie movies. Or by a real die hard Herbie fan.

Bee Movie

This is one of those movies where I heard a lot about it but I still wasn't all that sure I would like it. Color me surprised when I watched Bee Movie and found that I loved it! The whole suing the honey companies for stealing was hilarious (and was surprisingly realistic to our world today).

Could you imagine if the worms who make silk could talk? What if bees really could talk? They would definitely demand a percent on the take for what they produce!

Monkey kept referring to this movie as "her movie", so I'm willing to bet this would be a hit equally for kids and adults.

All Grown Up: R.V. Having Fun Yet? (Rugrats)

When I was younger I would watch Rugrats whenever I had a chance. I've been able to pass that on to my daughter. While I still love Rugrats as babies, they're just a great as preteens (and as a teen in Angelica's case).

All Grown Up: R.V. Having Fun Yet? has a 2 part episode dedicated to an R.V. trip that seems like it was pulled right out of the movie, RV. Not exactly a bad thing, but I kept wanting to call their junker "The Rolling Turd."

Thankfully they have a few other episodes on here as well but only one really seemed to stick out, and that's the episode on karma. Nothing is funnier than watching karma shun Angelica's every attempt at getting rid of her acne. She does the right thing in the end, just in time to find out that she only needed a dermatologist. That episode will stick with me for a loooong time.

This disk was not only a hit with me, but it was a big hit with my 4 year old daughter as well. If you must watch cartoons, it might as well be something you enjoy... right?
